WHAT CREATIVE METHODS CAN I IMPLEMENT FOR MY ANXIETY NOW?
When you're angry about something or someone, many recommend reaching out for healthy and creative outlets to express your emotions. Most times, it's almost impossible to do in that state of mind. They become erratic and aggressive in nature and don't fully soothe your soul in the end. The same might be said about your anxiety as well.
Like reading, it's not that a creative outlet doesn't help or makes it worse, but rather you may not have found the exact outlet that helps you. With so many out there, it's possible that the creative method just hasn't been discovered yet and is waiting for you to embrace it.
One way to cleanse your soul is like the beginning stages of preparing for meditation. When you start meditating, you visualize all your stress and muscle tension washing away one muscle at a time. These visualization-based rituals are aplenty in the world with some being more engaging than others. You can create physical objects to symbolize your anxiety to remove it one step at a time.
Sit where you're most comfortable at home and take some paper out. It can be scrap paper, an old piece of mail, or notebook paper. Whatever it is, make sure you can write on it with a pencil or pen without trouble and can tell what you wrote. Take this paper and write or draw something that makes you anxious or any other unwanted emotions you possess at that moment. This doesn't need to be perfect, and it could be abstract to fully harness how you're feeling. Maybe you're empty inside so you consistently create large circles that repeat over one another until it's extremely thick and almost breaks through the paper from the number of markings. If you're more interested in writing, you can choose a single word, or let the words flow from your hand in freestyle.
Once you have the writing or drawing completed, it's time to destroy it. Just as hard as it is to let go of these emotions and situations around you, it's hard to destroy the paper as well. You might have liked how the drawing or writing came out and want to keep it to show off to others or feel pride about yourself when you see it. However, the purpose of the paper was never to keep it around, just like you won't keep the another around.
There are so many options to choose from when it comes to destroying the paper. You can crumple it and throw it out into the garbage with those negative emotions staying with the paper, you can shred it so it can't come back and reassemble in your mind or set it ablaze and let the negativity drift away with the smoke and ash.
Whatever option you choose, make sure you connect the destruction of the paper to your emotions and don't leave any keepsakes, including photos of the paper to remind yourself. By maintaining keepsakes of the paper, you're still mentally holding onto the negative connotations that the paper represented.
